I’ve been having fun the last three years welcoming you into my life, sharing light-hearted stories about aging. Although I’m a “little fish in a big pond” on Substack, I’m really excited about having nearly 700 subscribers from 37 states and 20 countries now.
Because I’m extremely thankful for this community, I’ve donated to the Butterfly Garden at the Franklin Conservatory in Columbus — with you as honorees. Thank you so much for being here.
Recently, I used AI to create a logo with the Monarch butterfly — hoping to publicly reaffirm my mission of helping others age well. (I promise I write all the other stuff myself except the humorous quotes.) Ha!
I noticed two of my most popular articles last year were “I Met A Survivor,” a story about meeting a woman who had escaped the Oklahoma City bombing, and “Dwelling On Past Mistakes,” a reassurance that we are allowed to forgive ourselves. I inserted links for both of them. Because of that, I may be writing a few more serious stories like those this coming year. We shall see…
I will definitely continue focusing on the humor I find in everyday life and The Little Old Lady with the Red Purse’s grammar lessons, however. I’m also kicking around the idea of publishing another compilation of blog stories for a non-profit fundraiser.

But right now, I’d like to invite you to join another Substack page I belong to called Tuesday Creations, administered by my online friend, Cathey Cone. It’s the perfect place for people looking for a creative outlet.
Like my own page, you can subscribe here FREE if you just want to peruse and comment on other people’s contributions each Tuesday. If you’d like to share your own poetry, paintings, music and other creative projects, you will have to sign up for the $30 yearly subscription. You will be amazed by the encouraging feedback you receive.
And guess what? After you subscribe, you are welcome to join us in a Tuesday Creations Substack Live Writing Workshop I’m leading this Sunday, Sept. 7 at 4:00 PDT, 7:00 EST. Cathey will email you a link when we’re about to begin — if you get either subscriptions before then.
Here’s a short video I made recently that will tell you more about the workshop.
You know when I celebrated my birthday last week, I thought to myself, “God, Jan, you’re getting old. The Big 8-0 is right around the corner. You better slow down. ” Then I thought ~ Nay!
It’ll Be OK.
