I love this story. It was beautiful and it made me reflect back to my growing up days on a farm in southern Iowa. My mother always had beautiful flowers and there were always beautiful. Butterflies around them. But she didn’t want us to catch them because she was afraid it would take away from their beauty. I enjoy your stories Jan, they are always such heart warmers to me. Part of my family is a bout an hour from me and the rest of my family is in Arkansas. We are combining our family with my oldest grandson‘s wife’s Family. I will go to Sunrise service in the community I live in and then I’m going to my oldest grandson‘s wife’s family for Easter dinner potluck. Our weather here in SE Iowa is to be sunny And in the 70s. And remembering that Jesus lives, Hallelujah! Blessings Jan……

Hi Jan, love the reference to the stages of Christ's life and the releasing of the Monarchs at your mom's burial. So touching.

Easter activities for me began last night at Holy Thursday services & will continue with Good Friday, Easter Vigil & Easter Sunday. I'm a member of my church choir & we lovingly refer to Holy Week as our Easter season "God-a-thon."

Easter blessings to you & your family.

Nat ~ love you too!!!!! I remember sitting by your mom's grave once talking to her when a butterfly flew up & lit right on her name. I'm thinking it was your mom saying, "Stoneburner, quit moping & get to work." ha ha! I miss her. xoxo Happy Easter!

No, but I may now! Loved the Resurrection meaning. The metaphor I’ve always heard about butterflies is that as parents we have to let our kids struggle like the caterpillar in the cacoon. Trying to help them out may seem helpful, but they have to do it themselves or they will be crippled in their existence. Going to go to Michael’s today to look for butterflies!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! I’m sure they have a lot of pastel colors, but the orange of the Monarch would be gorgeous.

This is a beautiful reminder of someone special in your life and I love that it also points to what God did through the Resurrection. I hope your milkweed bush attracts all kinds of butterflies, but especially monarchs. Have a fantastic Easter week, Jan!

Cathey -- do you have Monarch butterflies in Washington? Hope your weekend is great too! {{Hugs}}

Yes, we do have them and I should plant some milkweed, too. I wonder if deer eat that..... Anyway, yes, we have lots of butterflies and dragonflies. The yellow swallowtails are my favorite, though.

What a coincidence, Jan! My mom loved butterflies, too. She had a bumper sticker on her car that read "I Brake for Butterflies", as well as having some shirts that had butterflies on them. Back in the fall I was driving to work and I noticed a butterfly flying by my front windshield. I started to think that I hadn't really seen any butterflies for awhile in the area that I live. As I drove the butterfly was staying close to the back of my car where I could see it in my rearview mirror for a little bit. I remembered then how my mom loved butterflies and was hoping it was a sign from her.
