You're what we pray our children and grandchildren and even great grandchildren have to teach,guide, entertain, encourage, and love them up to their potential (did I use the right their?) 😬😬😬 I try to use what you taught me beautiful lady
Thanks, Bonnie ~ You did use the right "their." And I admire your spirit; starting the memory website, sharing your amazing photos and supporting your family. I'm really glad we were able to reconnect a few years ago. xoxo
Jan, you nailed it! Thank you for this wonderful piece. Until you walk in someone else’s shoes you don’t know what they face. Every one believes teachers have it easy. Your piece lays it out exactly how it is.
You are definitely right, Barbara! I used to be critical of our guidance counselor -- then I did the job. Yikes! It was an invaluable lesson about walking in someone else's shoes. {{Hugs}}
Both my parents were teachers and some of what you say resonates. Drugs and violence wasn't on the same scale, but lots of challenges. The great part of having parents who were teachers was lots of family time together on weekends and vacations.
Hi Karen ~ June - July - August definitely 3 benefits of teaching. Ha! I consider myself lucky. When I grew up women could be teachers, secretaries & nurses. If you wanted a really exciting job, you hoped to be an airline stewardess. I loved being a teacher.
Hi Elaine ~ I still remember my favorite teacher who inspired me to get a communications degree. If she's still alive she'd have to be at least 100. I could never tell her what she meant to me. I hope she knew.
I never got along in school with any of my teachers. Well, not entirely true, 2nd grade Mrs. Hodges before she went out on maternity leave, her replacement Mrs. Rapp, and my 8th grade geography teacher Mr. Casey, who inspired me to travel the world. The rest: duds.
When I got older and many of my friends turned to teaching, I began admiring all that they do, honestly a few inspired me to want to teach.
This is a great tribute to teachers and I for one admire them for all they do, especially since gave details. Great piece!
Thanks, Patti ~ I have the feeling you'd make a great teacher. Oh, the places you would have taken your classes through stories, field trips, etc. Your adventurous spirit would have inspired a lot of kids, I'm sure. {{Hugs}}
I was impressed by the strength of the wonderful bond, the correction, and the teachings of a true soul. Even after decades have passed, those words have saved me! I will never forget the teacher who truly saved me from the brink. I'm sure we've all experienced this, and the warmth deep in our hearts always helps us. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. 🙏
Sounds like you truly made a difference in this young person's life, Jan! Beyond that you made a difference in the community because of the way your teaching got/is getting passed along. I appreciate what you're doing and hope there will be more teachers like you coming up thru the ranks. Thanks for sharing this uplifting story...I needed to hear it, especially today. It warms my heart in the midst of a cold winter...
As I substitute in schools today, I have one thought, I am glad I was a teacher many years ago. The demands on teachers are much greater now. I could have fun and interesting lessons but now it is all about the “TEST”. They practice for the practice tests before the real test.

Teachers! Where would we be without them?! I was so blessed to have such fabulous teachers, considering my school was in the back of beyond.
So glad you experienced good teachers! Maybe you'll write about one in your memoir. I am enjoying following a long on your progress. xoxo
So happy to have you reading along! As I say in this coming Monday's post: it's like a 4 year pregnancy!

And skiing at Christmas and Easter was awesome too.
Kudos to all the teachers who have inspired their students. Where would be without an encouraging example. 📖

Wow!!! You were (and still are) a gift.

What a heart warmer! I loved this as a former teacher.
