Loved this Jan. It sounds like me. I gave up dresses as I need a larger size for the top and a smaller size for the bottom and most dresses are either large all over or small all over. Pants and tops are what I go for now, so you are not alone in that. Unfortunately it is even getting harder to buy nice things for an older person. Most shops seem to cater for the young and forget that older people like to wear nice clothes too..

I know, Teresa! I'm trying to imagine what the women look like who are wearing these clothes. Ha ha! xoxo

Once menopause hit I was done for. I gained 20 pounds overnight it seemed. I buy most of my clothes at Chico’s. Their pants are very slimming. The tops are comfortable and fun. I have so much of their jewelry, colllected over two decades. Last time I wore a dress was about eight years ago when my granddaughter got married. I guess we just have to settle in and enjoy life... in the clothes that fit us!

Oh, Debbie ~ I get the menopause dilemma. Right at that same time for me my husband had to go on a low cholesterol diet. He lost 25 pounds and I gain 20. Not fair! Ha ha! Yep, I don't have to shave my legs as often anymore either -- age + pants. Life is good! xoxo

How I chuckled! I'm right in there with you, Sista! I'm so glad you are seeing Camelot in NYC. I remember how I loved walking Times Square with all the folks pouring out of various plays. Say hello to Broadway for me, please!

I will, Patty! We are staying at Hotel Edison right on Time Square. Camelot is at the Lincoln Center -- a few blocks away. I've never seen a show there. Super excited to be part of Broadway magic. xoxo

I’m still laughing moments later....this is so spot on! 3/4 length sleeves are a must or long that can be pushed up, a certain neckline and a certain length or just simply a no go. BUT~ you forgot pockets, unless they aren’t a must for you. I never purchase anything without the blessed pocket hahaha. Been down the road of ordering “both” sizes to see which is the better fit. Right now I have 4 pair of shoes ~ 2 styles/2 sizes and none win the Keeper award....now when will I be able to get them returned?🥴

Thank you for my morning humor and can’t wait to hear all about your NYC adventures! Safe travels my friend💖

OMG, Cindy ~ you are right! Pockets!!! I think that beige number I tried on had pockets, but I was too busy trying to fit my boobs in the top to notice closely. xoxo

I used to love shopping and now my shopping is broken. I think it started to happen before Covid but now the desire is just gone. But the other thing is that I hate returning things so shopping online is a crapshoot, too. I believe every style tends to come around again, so maybe I'll just keep recycling that stuff in my closet that I keep hanging onto to "wear someday".

Cathey ~ half the time I don't return the stuff I order. It never looks like the picture. Remember that bra I ordered for Sr. women?!?!? ha ha! I've started a closet for "things I ordered but didn't return." xoxo

Haha! I always think, "Well, this isn't great, but I can make it work so I won't send it back." And there it hangs and I never pick it to wear. But in my head, maybe someday I will pick it and love it. It's a sickness.

I love to go shopping except I don’t like trying them on especially bottom pants , I end up with jeans at kids department and for dress pants is a challenge so I love shopping on thrift stores.

Hi Lucy ~ Do you have Hobby Lobby where you live -- a home decor store? That's about the only place I love shopping. Of course, I don't need one more knick knack, shelf, centerpiece or flower arrangement for my house. Hope all is well with you! xoxo

No the closest one is 2 hours away but I’m frequently going to Minneapolis when I go to Mayo and that’s where I shop mostly.

I laughed out loud reading your text and imagining the scene. By the way, your writing makes me create images, I must confess that not every author can do that. Which means your texts are really good!

Thanks, Angela! This might be interesting to you: did you realize some people think in pictures, others in words? I do not see images in my head so maybe that's why I write the way I do -- creating them for myself too??? I kind of feel my way through life... xoxo

There is a concept in neuroscience called "aphantasia" characterized to define the inability to create images in the mind. Definitely, I'm not that type, in everything I create images, I'm totally visual. LoL

Yes, I often wonder if suffer from that. Or do I just think in words? Would be interesting to know. However, I've adjusted pretty well in life. Matter-of-fact, I wonder if it made me a better teacher -- I made everything visual & hands on for the students. Did you read Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's book Whole Brain Living? I have been in contact with her about being able to see images. Her mother didn't see images either. I told her I saw my first 3D image recently when I was meditating. Can you believe it -- at 76 yrs old. I was so excited. And it was in color. She told me I was in the right thinking portion of my brain at that time. Character #4. I am starting to see images while meditating. Did you run a movie in your head? I don't. I am taking some classes with her in June. If I learn more about that, I will report back. Fun discussing things with you. XOXO

Oh Jan you crack me up. What I do is buy all the clothes and take them home to try on😊. My problem is I’m too short with big boobs so what would fit me in the length and every where else doesn’t fit in the top portion😂. Needless to say I returned all the dresses.

Oh, Cheryl -- the tricks Mother Nature pulls on us. When I wanted boobs, I was almost flat chested. The struggle is real. Ha Ha! {{Hugs}} xoxo

I have gotten very lazy and revert to online shopping most of the time. I agree with Theresa - it's getting harder and harder to buy nice clothes for the older person.

Hi Janice ~ I just got back from NYC. Saw lots of "different" fashion there. We just need to live in a place where "nice" clothes can mean "anything goes." ha ha! xoxo

Hi Jan, What I've been doing with the few items that I've guessed wrong on is gifting them to others whom I know could use them. Some for themselves, some for friends they have. I have one cute little red doggie jacket which I'm saving specifically for one of our pups upat Motley Zoo Animal Rescue/Woods Creek Kennels. I know this jacket will be nice and warm for one of the pups whi needs it. ☺️😉💞🦋

Oh Jan if I could only count how many times I tried things on and said OH My!. I’m so bad with buying clothes. I actually only buy clothes if 1) if my mom is with me or my sister. And that’s when I go back to Kentucky ha ha. I’m going to be sorry if my mom passed away. Because who will dress me😂 Any way thank you for sharing I love how you make me smile and laugh with your stories.

Hi Shari ~ I know what you mean, but it was daughters in my case. Ha! I had to go through an awkward growing up stage when they left home -- lost all self-confidence on what clothes, shoes, etc. went together. Thanks for reading my blog. xoxo

I've stayed at the Edison many times - many years ago. I met a friend who lives in Berkeley once at the Lincoln Center. Amazing that it worked - us coming from East and West Coast! What a spectacular building! Enjoy all!
