I had a like invasion years ago in my prior home. They took over my backyard. They took ownership of all my lawn furniture. Their way of asserting property rights was to completely ruin the furniture so that it was useless for any other use but their own. You know: feces, stuffing all torn out and spread in the lawn... that kind of thing.
I found myself irrationally angry at these tiny furry guys who, after all, just wanted to make themselves feel at home!
Hi Sherri ~ thanks for reading my blog! I guess we all have squirrel problems. Ha Ha! My neighbor feeds the squirrels. I kinda hinted, "They're destructive little things, aren't they?" She said, "Yes, they're eating the shutters off our house." Duh!
I waged war on the squirrels in my yard...they were relentless with each bird feeder as well as the patio furniture, etc. I, too, set Have a Heart traps and transported them, always across water, to various parks & wooded spots. Much more humane than some other alternatives. One such drop off was a bit interesting. A park ranger stopped me and wanted to look at the squirrel....who knew it was illegal~due to spreading diseases~ to move wildlife. He got my attention when he mentioned the $850.00 fine for what I was doing. Talk about jaw dropping! Fortunately, I was able to talk myself into “ just a warning this time!” Phewee! 🤣🤣. Needless to say, I just said the heck with it and we coexist now....sorta!🤣
I just love reading your stories Jan, the make my day or evening which ever comes first. I’ve never really had a squirrel problem. Though I shouldn’t say anything thing it might be my turn next.
Jan, oh my this is hilarious but then again not. Squirrels are cute, but then my hubby and dad used to say 'they are rodents with a bushy tail'. Then they don't sound so cute. As for the squirrel thruster, it wouldn't be surprising if they actually grew to love it as an amusement ride.
But ugh, to hear all of these stories of destruction. Youch.
Would having a cat or dog around, even for a short time deter them.
Loved this Jan!!!! I have had my run-ins with squirrels in the past. I had a black walnut tree that hung over the roof over my bedroom. Theory would steal the walnuts and in early mornings you could hear the scatter across the roof and then the rolling of the walnuts down the roof and into the gutters. And then they would tear open the walnuts on my deck and leave a terrible mess all the time. And you know walnut stains were all over. Ugh. I got so tired of it, I had the tree cut down.
Also I had a big beautiful bird feeder where I thought was safe in the middle of my yard. Those squirrels would balance themselves on the tiniest branch and fly through the air to jump onto that bird feeder to steal the bird feed. So now, the birds don’t get fed either.
End of fight. Until recently a walnut tree started growing in my yard. Those dang squirrels buried a walnut and it grew and grew. So yep, they’re baaack!!
OMG Cheryl ~ raccoons might be worse. I live in town, but one morning I woke up at dawn & saw a shadow moving out by the pool. It turned out to be a mom & dad raccoon and 3 little babies. I wonder if the smell of water attracted them. I've also had a fox take up residence here for a couple weeks??????? Thanks for reading my blog! xoxo

End mention: they won!

She is encouraging their return by feeding and not protecting. I should talk. I did the same thing. Lol.
Thrusting the squirrel over the fence is priceless!
Hi Vicki ~ I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it. I guess not everyone agrees. Ha Ha!

It’s a great blog. I have trapped or I should had a trapper get 3 of them so far but it’s very expensive!
I’m invaded by raccoons! I love the squirrel catapult 😂😂
