Great piece of writing Jan. Thanks for the heads up so I will be very careful when I am at the International Departure in August. I am over 75 next week so I may get asked questions as well. Maybe different here in Australia but then I have to travel home again from the US. I hope if I do I find the funny side of it like you did.

Another great piece of writing from you Jan . I haven’t yet experienced discrimination because of my age, something to look forward to in the future maybe?

Another great story. I haven’t traveled by plane for years. Yes I was discriminated against by my former supervisor. She was a special ed teacher, and I was a para educator working underneath her. She was a bully and very rude to me, even though I was requested by some of the teachers. After Covid I worked a year and then didn’t return to the school. I am still working, in a different setting 3 days a week, and i am 75 years young! Life is so grand now - no headaches like before!!

Again, many thanks to you for blessing me again. Hugs

Oh, Mary -- I have known some terrible special ed teachers who treated people badly. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? I'm glad you got away from her. I'm getting ready do to a speech next week to a group of middle school honor students. Bullying is one of the topics -- I feel like looking at some of their teachers when I'm talking. ha ha! Ok, have a great weekend. Life is grand! xoxo

HI Jan. I haven't been stopped/scrutinised because of my age,but I had my hand luggage checked once. Let's just say Security Guard got embarrassed when he opened it up and realised, ladies Sanitary items. Well I won't have that problem anymore. 🤣🤣🤣

Good one, Anna! They say if you get stopped for speeding to tell the cop you started your period. ha ha! The last time I had a CAT Scan they asked when I had my last period. I'm such an old English teacher my mind went right to the punctuation mark. Ha! (I had kidney stones.) xoxo

Jan~ fun piece! Flying can be so entertaining.

Going through security is like a workout! Take shoes, belt, jacket etc off...hurry and grab everything when done, dress back up in front of everyone, put all items back in where you all had them neatly packed 🤷🏻‍♀️. That’s why I pay for TSA PreCheck...hassle free.

On one of our times in Italy, my daughter Elizabeth was pulled and taken into “the room” w/security...and Mama Bear wasn’t allowed to go! It was b/c of the Victoria Secret underwire bra she was wearing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Happened each time she forgot and wore that bra on our traveling days. Her sisters soon were her reminders

Those darn underwires!!! Ha! Hi Cindy! I always try to wear the easiest clothes to remove. One time I set the alarm off with some jewelry I was wearing. Scared me to death. Hope all is well with your mom. xoxo

We were in Firenza(Florence) and my youngest and I had asthma difficulties. We had gone to the pharmacy and bought from the pharmacist an asthma inhaler( prescription only in Us for about $70…bought from her for $4.50 usd). I had it in my pocket going through security on the way to Barcelona. You would have thought that I had a murder weapon!! However, I was over the moon pleased when they let me keep it and I didn’t watch them pitch it🤣🤣

We’ve had a pretty rough week. Just one day at a time

Yikes! One time I watched them pitch a new $19 bottle of hairspray. Why I bought that in the first place is beyond me. Glad they gave the inhaler back to you. If you ever need me to come over & sit with your mom so you can run errands, let me know. She & I can drink Pepsi. xoxo

First of all, "leaving on a Jet Plane" is my very favorite P,P,and M song! Thanks for bringing it to mind. I'll be going to you tube in a minute. One of my foavorite airport memories. I was at the Charlottesville small one very early one morning. The woman in front of me had a pet in a zipper bag. Security ordered her to take it out. It was wearing a diaper thingie. Security said to take it off, but just an inch or two and he waved her on through. Can you guess the detail I omitted?

Jan, such a fun piece about airport security, it’s always an adventure. The last time my mom flew , she was 88, had an artificial knee, and a pace maker, all verified with correct documentation, plus in a wheel chair, they still made her stand while they used the wand and patted her down! My mom stood there smiling the whole time and very politely chatted with them. On my recent trip to South Carolina, the TSA agent in Denver was so pleasant, he was asking people if they were Nuggets fans..

I so enjoy your writings, love your outlook on life. When I saw the notification, it’s the first thing I read...

Thanks so much, Linda! I'm glad you enjoy the stories. You won't believe this -- when the guy found out I didn't have artificial anything, he just made a check on a paper & sent me through (around scanner.) I thought that was weird??? xoxo

Even though I have the TSA pre- check, on my flight in December, I was pulled aside for the “ random” scan...

Security is the part of flying that gives me anxiety. The rules are different at every airport. I learned awhile back not to make jokes with the TSA folk. They must all hate their jobs and their funny left a long time ago. On one of our last trips, my husband accidentally smuggled a box knife through in his backpack. They didn't find it. What's the point of all the scanning and feeling up if you can get through with a box knife?! I'm always so relieved when I have my backside plopped into a seat on the plane.

Oh. Cathey -- one time they found a tiny pair of scissors in my tiny sewing kit. I felt like a criminal when they were done with me. Such a hit or miss process. All for show I think. The officer just let me walk right around the scanner when he found out I didn't have artificial parts. Ha Ha! xoxo

I met a woman in Oklahoma City airport that had a bladder mesh surgery years ago. It sets off the scanner every time and she gets massively felt up every single trip. Surely there should be a way to register that sort of medical anomaly so it's not a red flag every time? You do feel like a criminal no matter what!
