Both. I use it as a way to balance training. When we strengthen our cerebellum we actually strengthen our prefrontal cortex area that handles emotional regulation and our social awareness ability.

I use a balance board to improve my balance! I use in session with the kids and so they love it and it’s helping me also.

Hi Tricia ~ I got those for my grandkids for Christmas one year when they were younger. Tried it -- not so easy. I should ask them if theirs are stuck away in a closet somewhere. How do you use it with the kids? Do they actually need balance work or is it a tool to get them to talk?

Reading your text, I imagined myself a little older since now I'm totally confused with space, I bump into things and fall a lot they say tall people have difficulty with space, I think that's what happens to me LoL

Thank you for sharing your text and your mood

Hi Angela ~ I've always been "navigationally-challenged." I never know which way I'm going. For some dumb reason I always think if I'm going straight I think I'm going north. ha ha! I am thinking about you a lot since I heard there are a lot of protests in Brazil over your elections. Hope you are safe at the university. xoxo

I'm just like you Jan, LoL right and left always confuses me.

John Gray's book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" - I'm not sure if the title in English is the same, but there the author says that we women don't we have space skills.

Oh, I am immensely grateful for following the protests in Brazil, it is a beautiful, organic movement with millions of people taking to the streets to protest against the lack of transparency in the electoral process in which there were indications of fraud, in addition the supreme court is acting with authoritarianism and invading the competence of the Executive Branch, this has also been the agenda of our protests, I was in all of them, only this week I could not participate because I have Covid and in Brazil we have the isolation protocol for 7 days.

Thanks again for the love and xoxo

Loved that book, Angela. Somehow I've escaped Covid so far. My husband has had it twice. I will continue to pray for you & Brazil. xoxo

Yes, I also really liked it, I think I'll reread since I'm locked in the house.

LoL I hope I don't have Covid again, despite the doctor saying that my symptoms were mild, over the weekend I got really bad, really bad - LoL

Thanks for the prayers!

The last time I attempted a cartwheel was about 3 years ago! I was thrilled that I could still do one, however, I thought I was going to break my wrist! I realized the extra weight gained through the years made a big difference on my arms and wrist! Duh !?!

Cheers to you brave women who still try to do cartwheels!!! You gave me a chuckle, Linda! Thanks! xoxo

I can do the things I did when I was younger, but a couple of weeks ago I got covid, despite being mild, the doctors told me I had to take special care of my self because of my age, so I stopped cycling and running for this week.

Oh yes, Elizabeth ~ take it easy. My husband has always been really healthy -- had all his shots, but got Covid twice. The last time he was pretty sick for 2 weeks -- terrible sore throat. He is doctoring for his heart now -- they can't rule out it is Covid related. We are a lot older than you. I bet you'll be back cycling & running soon. Take care! xoxo

Hi Jan!! I find that continuing to climb on my horse and ride, even just at a walk helps strengthen my balance. I walk better and with less stiffness if I can ride at least twice a week!!

Cheers!

Hi Marsha ~ whenever I watch Heartland, I wonder how strong you have to be to climb up on a horse? I only rode as a kid. I saw where your daughter had an asthma attack; I hope she's better now. {{Hugs}}

Hi Lynn ~ I got the bright idea last summer to buy a badminton set. I loved playing when I was a kid. Well, I got people to play then I couldn't run fast enough to hit the birdie. Wasn't that much fun for them. ha ha! xoxo

The cruelest part of getting older is that as my body ages it fails to communicate the new limitations to my mind. I personally have no problems with falling down, but if I make the mistake of lying down on the floor, getting up is a whole different story.

Love it, Roy! You are exactly right. I still think like I'm 10, but my body has put the brakes on. I'm quite a sight getting up off the floor. Ha! Thanks for joining in the discussion. xoxo PS I bet your biking helps though.

This whole concept hit home to me last summer. I was a gymnast in my youth and have always been pretty agile. One of our friends asked if I could still do a cartwheel. OF COURSE I can still do a cartwheel. But now it's not pretty and it hurts. 😂

Part of my post-op physical therapy after my knee replacements was to balance on each leg for one minute without support. Never really realized how long 60 seconds can be! 🙀

Hook ~ when I did cardio rehab, my legs got really strong & I could put my pants on standing up. I need to exercise more...

Gosh Jan, at 63, I am feeling some of my agility sliding down hill. Getting up off the floor, stepping down out of the tractor (that last step can be a dozy!!), standing up from my chair to wait on people at work.......I do exercise most daily. I just read about the standing on one foot, need to give this a try!!

Brenda ~ I have to roll over to get up off the floor or out of the bathtub. It's quite the sight! Ha! Ha! Watch out for that last step! xoxo

Hi Jan! Nice to hear from you. Melissa is better now as she got some meds. She has pneumonia of the left upper lobe of that lung. She was very sick but doing much better now.

It takes a fair amount of strength to climb up from the ground. The amount it takes varies some with the height of the horse. One must have good balance also. Many older folks with joint problems use a mounting block to stand on to help mediate the distance one has to climb up on the horse.
