My mom and I were different.. she was lady with hair always done up, makeup, dressed nicely… me I was the tomboy type, still am .. jeans and t-shirt. We didn’t wear the same size anything. My daughter is like her grandmother…coordinated outfits down to the shoes, makeup and hair. My son has many of his dad characteristics. My kids have just a tiny bit of me…both do enjoy family time like I do, the important things!

Linda — my mom was so coordinated the funeral director actually commented on her matching decor throughout the house when he came to pick her up. He said the only difference with his grandma in Cuba was his grandma had plastic on her furniture. I almost died laughing inside — even though it was kinda inappropriate. 😂 🙄

I love shoes and when I go on vacation, the hardest part is what shoes to leave behind because I love to coordinate colors! We're heading into boot season soon here in Eastern Washington and I will be happy to see all my cute boots again! The cold weather I could do without, but the boots make it better.

Cathey — I could live in my Uggs during the winter. I might have to buy a new pair this year they’re so worn. Not in any rush though!!! 😊

Can you get them in Orange? You may be setting a new fashion trend, Jan!

Shoes….definitely shoes! Ha Ha. My mother’s weak spot always was her shoes. Even when her hip replacement went south and she required having a built up shoe….I was amazed at what her shoe cobbler could do to her shoe. One time on vacation, I bought the same navy blue shoe in a flat, a pump and a high heel….they were comfy and I was having to wear business dress everyday. My kids deemed me “Shoe Lady”. Even now they laugh when we travel that Mom’s here and so is her shoe bag. Decision, decisions!

I think it's both. There is definitely a genetic part, but also a nurture part. I have some similarities, but I'm also the opposite of my mum. Like Linda, I'm a bit of a tomboy, whereas my mum was the opposite. She always took forever to get ready. Going shopping was a nightmare for me. I remember one time my dad, mum and I were in Queensland for a holiday. Mum flew up, dad and I drove up. We went to a shopping mall where dad and I would sit outside waiting for mum. She could be there for hours and might only end up with one thing, or go over the too. I had a much better relationship with my dad and was never really close to my mum. This also was due to other factors, but I always felt I had a special bond with my dad and I adored him.

I agree, Christine. I think it’s both. It’s so neat you had a special bond with your dad. I wasn’t very close with mine although I knew he loved me. I’m so happy my daughters adore their dad; they play music & golf with him. Have a great weekend!!! And thanks for commenting on my blog. ❤️

Interesting. I hadn't thought about it., My Mom and I had very different clothing choices and life styes. She was very social , funny, outgoing, and party-loving. I like staying home, am more on the serious side, and hate parties.

Morning, Janice — I always thought both my parents were different people: for us & for the world. I’m probably a mix of all 4 of them. Ha! 😂

I guess it couldn't be any other way, could it?

My mother and I have a few things in common, the most important being that we are teachers. Speaking of shoes, my husband doesn't understand why I have so many pairs.......

Hi Elizabeth — I get the husband thing. I think my husband may have 5 pairs of shoes — including his golf shoes. 😂

Love, love, love the orange shoes!!!! Talk about happy feet!! Share the final outfit with shoes you choose for the wedding, please!! I live this sort of thing.

After my mother was gone and I had to go through her clothes and shoes I nearly swooned 73 pairs of shoes, a New Year's eve formal from the 70s, her Navy uniform, and a mink sweater stand out in my mind. (She also had 103 pairs of panties, but that's another story.) Nature or nurture? I'm adopted and love to buy beautiful, new shoes. I don't do so much anymore, the income can't support that and my other habits. :) Wonderful read as always, you know how to cheer a reader up, that's for sure !!

Hi, Patti — are you back home or still traveling? I’ll definitely share a dress pic in March. It’s navy with embroidered flowers on it. I was goofy & sent nearly 50 pairs of my mom’s different colored golf socks home. I do have her little mink jacket & hat stored in a closet. I’m not sure where I’d wear that. 😂

I'm home!! Haha, you might catch some funny looks with a little mink jacket these days! 50 pair of golf socks sounds like something that would have taken place in my mother's wardrobe. One of these days I'll do a little piece on my own closet. It's virtually bare, hahah, I have vices but buy-in clothes isn't one of them... now shoes... a different story!!

😜😜I think it’s in your genes!! I had so many pairs of shoes in college. A pair for almost anything that would come up! Then foot reconstruction ruined all the fun shoes 😢

I say go for it!! And why not buy all 3 pairs of orange shoes! They’re fabulous!

Ah ha! Notice there are 4 pairs there so far. 😊 I remember a pair of leopard keds I wore the first day of high school back in the 60’s. I’ve always said go wild. 😂 Thanks for reading my blog. {{Hugs}}

You go girl! My mom, Agnes Louise, and I shared the same 6 1/2 shoe size and her mantra was usually “a woman’s place is in the mall“. So when she passed, I did the same thing (donated) with her shoes. Some are still here periodically on my own feet so I believe in nature and nurture. Love 🥰 this one as I do most of your blogs.

Thanks, Vicki! Mindy has my mom’s shoe bag that has “Life is short; buy the shoes” printed on it hanging in her closet now. 😂

My mother and I had similar tastes in jewelry. Being the only girl, I kept her good jewelry. Thing is, I never buy it for myself any more. I've always liked hers better than what I had. I couldn't wear her shoes though.

Oh yes, the only good jewelry I have was my mom’s. Enjoying your blog, Anne. {{Hugs}}

You and your daughter wear the same size shoe? How lucky are you? Everyone I know is a different size from me. I am trying to be sensible (a vain attempt, but I'm not dead yet). I even have a pair of shoes that are the wrong size and are falling apart, but they are too cute to give away. Am I demented? No need to answer.

Expand full comment

Yes, my mom, daughter & I wear the same size. I inherit some of the most colorful sneakers from my daughter once a year. Yay! I get your need to save those wrong size falling apart shoes. I think I have a couple pairs like that myself. Maybe we are both demented. 😂 ❤️

Absolutely we have family traits that are shared in my family! My youngest grand son has so many of my dad’s personality traits ! Many other traits and characteristics are shared among others. It really is uncanny.
