I love reading your blog. It was great to see the pic of a number of my former teachers. Who is the gentleman in the middle of the front row? I didn't recognize him. PS. It is good to see my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Amendola comment below too. Funny - I feel like we are all frozen in time and none of us have gotten older.

I feel like that sometimes too — frozen in time. I love you all as adults, but I can revert back to the 1980’s in a heart beat — when you were teens. Fred Snyder is sitting down by Coach Bell.

Wow, I should have recognized him. He taught me to type. He also taught a few of my college classes. Plus, I may or may not have TP'd his house with Sue Schuster. :)

It is so good to see your “Hell No… group together again this year. I was just thinking about the start of the school year and wondered if y’all were still getting together. The other day my son, Marcus, asked me if I would like to start teaching again. I wanted to say “Hell no, I won’t go!” However I did answer, not now, for the same reason in your comments. I still believe teaching is a truly wonderful profession, it’s sad that the backing of parents and administrators for this valuable profession is lacking. We all need a little respect as we also give respect to others.

Hi Harriet — I agree teaching was the best, but there’s a lot to do in retirement. Your traveling life looks awesome. I hope you are keeping a journal. Take care! Tell Marcus I said hello. ❤️

I loved it, but don’t miss it. 😂 Maybe because we have this get-together. I am living through my teaching daughters too… Thanks for commenting, Deb! ❤️

Well said! None of us are perfect. Students need to see that so they feel loved and supported. We don’t know what is happening in their home lives. A classroom may be the only place they see and hear any positivity.

Thank you for including me yesterday. I love taking with you all. What a fun afternoon.

And if you don’t mind, I would love to save that picture you posted so I can share it with members of the class of 1984.

Of course, we love you! Thanks for all you did in your career as a teacher & administrator. {{Hugs}}

I was a substitute teacher for about a month. Losing a student temporarily was the end of that career. But I know how challenging it is to be a teacher and my hat is off to each and every one of them.

Another good blog Jan. I had mostly good teachers but there was one (Science teacher)who did not like me, I hated going into her class spent a lot of the time in the corridor.😩

You made me wish I'd chosen to be a teacher. I had TWO teachers in 12 years of school., that's it One was my second grade teacher who lovingly encouraged and helped me thrive as a frustrated left-handed forced to change to right-handed kid. The other was my 8th grade geography teacher who helped me see the planet in such a fascinating light that I wanted to travel the world (thank you Mr. Casey).

You always make my day! Great article.

Warms my heart with your lovely descriptions and saddens my heart as fewer are choosing careers as teachers!

Nice to keep those connections. Both my parents were teachers and I know changed the lives of many students. As a student, I was blessed with mostly good teachers, with a few outstanding life changing teachers and with a few bullying, soul crushing teachers who should have been allowed in a classroom. I know I learned from them all, including the cruel ones.

Oh, you are right there are some terrible teachers out there. Love keeping in contact with all my old colleagues. They were the good ones! (I bet like your mom & dad.)
