Yes! I worked in a church office with people who were a variety of ages. We had some really fun field trips and retreats and the Christmas parties were off the charts. We always did a white elephant gift exchange and I'll never forget the year that our Children's pastor and her husband brought edible underwear. The story they told about the husband going into one of "those" stores for his purchase was hysterical. Everybody needs to cut loose sometimes - even church people!
Love those white elephant exchanges! Ha Ha! Really enjoyed your blog about spring coming... It's still cold here, but sunny -- so I have hope too! xoxo
Spirit week was always more fun because EVERYONE participated. Those are some good memories. I did not know about the alternate Honors Awards - this is something I may steal!
Oh, Nicole ~ the alternate Honors Awards Night was a hoot. Do you remember Pat Heavrin -- Chemistry teacher? She & Diane Smith wrote it. They had an award for each of us. I can't remember what mine was, but I remember it was hilarious. We held it in the library right after the "real" one. Love that you're the teacher now. Have some fun! xoxo
My work group is very nice and this year we all go to the same teachers' room. Incredibly, I am the organizer of the celebrations, I am not exactly the soul of the party but this is my challenge for the year. Big hugs 🤗
Hi Elizabeth ~ I was thinking about you the whole time I wrote this. Wishing you lots of fun & little stress the rest of this year. Art, music, food, sports are always winners (with kids & adults) {{Big Hug }} xoxo
Sounds like you had a lot of fun. I’ve worked in an office being an Accountant all my life. Now when I go into the office at least twice a week, I feel like a grandmother as everything has changed since COVID lockdowns. We never did anything like this, but with the different companies I worked for over the years each had it’s good points. Now, I’m not to stop being in the rat race and not have the deadlines. Maybe retire soon? Well, we’ll wait and see what God has to say about that. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Anne -- honestly, I think you are already embracing that right brain character #3 with your music, poetry & walks in the woods. It may not be with your work group, but definitely your on-line community. xoxo
Wanted to share something else: You may understand this because the group I spoke to were all very "comfortable" with numbers, but I was surprised. One of their biggest stressors was their clients -- people who were losing their money or people losing their spouses. Our discussion helped them realize they had to use their loving Characters #3s, #4s sometimes instead of always being "organized and efficient." I thought it was a great observation on these young women's part. Thoughts?
Thanks Jan. You may be right. I know I’m definitely being prepared for something. With my team at work, there are five women and one man. Poor guy, but he gets along with us fine. This is a great group I work with as we all or most of us share the same faith. They also follow me on substack. So I get to share with them and they also have noticed a change with me. The loving character does come out more now and that helps me cope with deadlines. I don’t deal with clients losing money as I work in construction, but being a numbers gal I can definitely see why they would care about their clients loosing their money. I know I would care so much about that. For me, I just have so much compassion for people and all that I guess is ready to come out now for whatever reason, but the writing, music, and walking, but most importantly my faith in God is what gives me the ability to do any of that. I’m glad those young women notice this.
Oh yes, God is giving you the ability to do writing, music & walking-- because it's the way He's helping you to get to Him. He's always been there, waiting for you. xoxo
Love this Jan so much !! I'm also very lucky to work with a wonderful bunch of people . We have done so many fun things together over the years ! Anything from dress up parties , fundraisers ,Christmas parties ,retreats .. Lately one of our favourite things to do is have painting classes together . It is the best way to unwind after a hard day at work , painting while you enjoy a glass of wine . ( water for me ,wine for my friends :)
In my teaching career I had the pleasure of working with several groups of fun people. In the Washington D.C area I worked at a very small, private school..we had dinners together and one year we all went to Colonial Williamsburg together. In my last years teaching in California, there was often a staff turnover every year, but there was this core group of teachers that created a fun group. We had staff parties for Halloween (costumes of course), a Christmas party with white elephant gift exchanges, there was one gift of a mounted cow horn that kept coming back year after year. and we always ended the year with a party. One year before the beginning of the school year when I had my room all set up for new students, I was surprised with a toilet in the middle of my classroom! Even though I have moved to Colorado, I take trips back to visit some of those wonderful friends.
OMG, Linda ~ the toilet caper sounds like something my group would do. Ha Ha! Yes, some people become friends for life even though we don't see them very often any more. xoxo
One year we had a water drinking challenge to help keep us on track for drinking water...we would send our empty water bottles with a student to each other’s classes, marking what number it was. One year we took turns delivering mugs to a certain teacher at Christmas as he had made remark about getting mugs from students every year....
Jan, this kind of activity is what I love to do and read about. Loved all these stories you shared with us. That is why I always say....don't let anybody dull your sparkle! Kudos
I'm working with a group of fun people right now! Working at an animal rescue/shelter can definitely have its stressful moments. When we encounter these, we often resort to taking silly pictures with our dogs, playing pranks on one another, and pointing out to one another crazy poses or actions our doggies are in. These are great ways to reduce stress, and have fun doing it! 😀
Oh, I bet those are some cute pictures, Pam. Have you made a calendar out of them as a fundraiser for your animal shelter? I bet silly would sell. xoxo
Visualizing your teacher/school fun activities, Jan!! Smiling and making me look at some of the teachers I had in a different light, just normal people!! Bloomville, OH bank branch, worked with four absolutely funny fabulous ladies! There wasn't one single day that I didn't want to go to work!! Thankful for those days! Thankful for your "that's good to know's"!
I think we got the Harvey Wallbanger recipe from your dad. ha ha! Isn't it amazing what a few funny fabulous ladies can do for us!!! Thankful for you. xoxo
I worked with msny creative people . Some were better than Laugh In. I can still remember skits performed at group meetings where they had us all in stitches. They made fun of the ridiculous company policies and even the managers had to laugh. Yes, great memories. 😂
Jan, I need your help! I don't know what has happened, but I'm locked out of THC. Alk I get is a page that show me as a hos, and showing me as that. All I want to do is get into the live chat, and now it's 5:37 PST so we're into FOUNDERS CHAT time ...but I can't get in! This is so crazy! Anyway, HAPPY EASTER ✝️🪺💞

No wonder I was thinking about you!!! I'll keep watching FB to see how it's going for you. xoxo
