It'll Be Ok

I laugh whenever I think about the time my daughter came home from school and pleaded, “Mom, do you have to keep saying ‘Woody’ in class?”   Back then, I knew I should never use the words “Peter” or “balls” when I was teaching my high school English class,  but no one ever told me that a Woody was no longer a station wagon with wooden side panels.

As I age, I notice I keep  falling further and further behind…

Who knew  “OK Boomers” is a put down to my generation and not a cheer at a University of Oklahoma football game

Or that “TikTok”  is a Chinese app for making dance videos and not the first words  of the nursery rhyme “Tick Tock the mouse ran up the clock” ?  

Or when the waiter referred to my friend as “Karen”  that he wasn’t being friendly, but  calling her an entitled white woman

I thought “Gaslighting” was partying at a  downtown bar, not  making someone question their own sanity, for heaven’s sakes.

And, who knew a “Mic Drop” was a great lasting impression and not someone actually dropping the equipment?

I’ve always known that language changes with the times, and slang is an informal way to determine who is in and who is out.  I’m just surprised that I’m the one who’s OUT.  I use to be so “Bad” – “The Cat’s Pajamas.”

 Well, this may “Blow Your Mind,” but I’m not going to “Have a Cow Over It,”  because retirement has turned out to be  “The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread.“

 The National Bureau of Economic Research has actually found that "retirement improves both health and life satisfaction.”  There’s even more scientific evidence that life improves with age. So, don’t lose your “Mojo” just because you’re getting older.   It’s “Cool!”     “Let’s party!”
