Oh how I remember watching Anerican Bandstand! And Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights. Oh yes, I Love Lucy, Life of Riley, Mr. Ed, Lassie and many others. We all had tape players just like we all have Smart phones now. Wonder where we’ll be in the next ten years! So happy to have found Heartland and discovered this wonderful movie star, Graham Wardle, and other cast members, who actually interact with their fans! Thanks for the memories. Great picture of you and your sister.

Jan good morning I enjoyed reading your story again as I always do with your past writings thank you. Right now my favourite show is Heartland I quit watching after S14 when Ty died.I still watch the reruns of S1-14. I found HL during the pandemic and that is how I survived staying in my suite. I became attached to all the casts especially Ty and Amy.Lou and Tim they get into my nerves. I remember watching Dallas,General Hospital . When I was in the Elementary grades we walked to school rain or shine. My favourite game with my classmates was marbles we stopped under a tree and played before the bell rang. We did not have telephones and television when I was growing up.No Barbie’s,no housekeeping toys so we made our own toys. Now everything is instant children have everything. They are lucky growing children.

Oh Jan, what memories you have awakened in me. Your experience mirrors mine with my sister, only I was the one who got to turn the tv on ! I just love the pic of you and your sister. My girls always get a good laugh when they look at those “old time” photos! Sometimes obsolete brings much comfort.

As usual Jan great writing with that little bit of humour brought in. I could almost duplicate that photo with one of my own with my sister but I’m the oldest😂. However I’m not as up-to-date as you my photos are still in albums! I think your television in the 1950’s was more advanced than ours in England. I remember our programming was only from late afternoon and evening! My favourite show is Heartland. I have never been a big follower of many shows or soaps. There was just something about a young actor that spoke to me. Of course my viewing began November 2019 through the Covid fiasco. I was not one for any media sights or Facebook it just wasn’t of interest. But since.... I have to say he would be the only one I would have continued interest in! Thanks again Jan for bringing back memories. Hugs xxx

Great stories! Thanks for sharing! And by the way, I did know what that equipment was and yes, I am older than 50! Of course, Heartland! I do enjoy Virgin River, Sweet Magnolias, and When Calls the Heart as well! Blessings!

Wow Jan you bring back memories we don’t have a television growing up and I didn’t watch tv until I migrated here 1979. I own a Walkman and I/ we watch Ed Sullivan with the In-laws and Johnny Carson show. I like to read and watch movies.Beautiful photos of you and your sister.

Would you believe I never had a Walkman?!! That’s how I discovered Heartland in 2021. I’m so glad I did. I especially like Graham, Amy, Geotgie, Caleb, and Scott. I found it absolutely amazing how kind and engaging Graham is with his admirers. He is toral class.

I can associate with the picture of the two sisters. You are the younger one, correct? I refuse to watch Heartland past Season 13. I have seen a preview or two on You Tube. It seems ridiculous to me. The actress they hired for Katie may be a great actress, but her height is ludicrous. I guess the Amy character is all that keeps people watching. I did catch the snippet in which Graham/Ty read the anniversary letter Amy finds. Do you agree that was Graham? Sure sounded like him. If so, that was nice of him to do.

Jan~thank-you for the trip down memory lane! 15 min soaps~ Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light...stay away from Mom for this half hour or else 😅 Saturday morning 15 min cartoons/shows...Sky King, Mighty Mouse . When we purchased our first colored TV, that replaced our B &W, the first show we watched was Brigadoon (TV movie 1966...Robert Goulet, Sally Ann Howes). I remember it being beautiful!

Look at technology today and where it has us now and where it will take us in the future. Thank goodness for FaceTime, Zoom, Skype...just a few of the wonders that make it a Small World after all!

You’ve made me smile once again!😊

We walked home from school and stopped at each other’s house for a snack or playtime. One mother always watched “The Edge of Night”. We always walked in around the time this big wave came of the TV screen during the introduction. I think Peyton Place was the first soap opera I watched, because it came on in the evening. I still don’t know how to get TV programs on Demand. I cancelled cable because it is too expensive and nothing was good on it anyway. Netflix and Prime TV seem to be my go-to. I can’t honestly say that I have a favorite show, except of course, for our beloved Heartland . Thanks for these special memories of TV land while growing up.

Ha! I loved this. The soaps! Guiding Light was my grandma's favorite as well. Mine was Days of Our Lives. Now we just get to dissect Heartland each week because of the magic of VPN. Such fun! And how awesome is the fact that friends can gather over the "interweb" and chat like we're in the room with each other? Progess is a good thing. This was fun, Jan, as your posts always are.

Jan, took me back to wonderful time ..younger years. I grew up on a farm so didn’t go home for lunch, ride bus to and from school. I remember our first TV...black and white, we got three channels most of the time, depending on the weather as signal would get interrupted during some storms. Do remember those “soap operas”...my parents watched As the World Turns” everyday after lunch..that was my Dad’s break from farm work. Saturday morning was our TV time, Lone Ranger, Roy Roger’s, Gene Autry, the westerns. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

Great story Jan! Waves of memories flooded in as you described your early TV years. My first memory of a TV ritual was coming home after school, sitting in my small U-shaped, cushioned chair & watching the Micky Mouse Fan Club(I think that's what it was called) show. When I was a little older, I would spend time with my grandfather watching Perry Mason (I saw copy of one of the books in a small local Italian bookstore in Orvieto).

Now, I stream on my laptop or SmartTV. My most favorite show is Heartland (I've lost count on how many times I have re-watched the series) and my second favorite series is Silent Witness (BBC). I too use VPN.

I've taken the lead among my close senior friends with regards to navigating Smartphones.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Jan, sorry for being so long-winded. I find I can’t watch easily past season 10 of Heartland so I commend your loyalty. Also I think it’s too early for Amy to move on! Just saying!
