First, here's a silly comment: there's an old movie with Doris Day a nd Cary Grant entitled "A Touch of Mink." Doris says she is fom UPPER SANDUSKY! Now, angels: right now Debbie Bolduc's comment is showing on my screen. A couple of months ago, Graham used break outs for a chat event. Debbie and I were in the sane little grouup of just four. She and I have become THC buddies, and it has enhanced my love of THC greatly. Now I feel "at home," not only with Debbie, but with quite a number of folks. If I'm feeling any degree of loneliness, a trip to the THC platform will lift me some. Another source of angels is this: a gift I have is the ability to speak to strangers in a polite, humorous way. A one minute exchange will leave us both smiling. I learned that from my father who has been my angel since 1984 (when he passed).
Having fun getting to know you, Patty! I'm smiling right now because you knew the "Touch of Mink" reference. We're only a town of 6,500 people , but we've got a couple movie connections. Parts of Shawshank Redemption were actually filmed here -- the courthouse scenes & the woodworking shop. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!!! xoxo
I was just telling a co-worker that there is a movie with Doris Day and she says she's from Upper Sandusky, but didn't know the name of the movie, (even though I've seen the movie, long time ago). Now I do, thank you! :)
Gotta have some fun so that your heart doesn’t get so heavy burdened. God always puts people in our lives at certain times when we need them. Thank Tijuana for sharing! Merry Christmas Jan to you and your family!
Ah Upper Sandusky, I was born and raised in Toledo and I've been to Cedar Point more than once. As for angels, I am grateful for the ones in my life - the ones who are by my side daily and the ones who drop by when I need them most.
Such a heartwarming story. I do believe there are angels walking amongst us every day. Some are holding our hands, others are walking behind us. I bet Jeff Roth was surprised to see you!! Merry Christmas. 🎄
Yes, he was! I saw Jeff recently here in Upper Sandusky. He still has a law practice here. It has been a difficult few years for him. His wife Joy passed away suddenly & then the recent hurricane wiped out his condo in Ft Myers. I'm sure Joy is his guardian angel now helping him through life's struggles, but I wish I could be making it easier for him like his family did for me. Well, have a Merry Christmas, Elaine! Thanks for reading my blog. xoxo
Jan, on so many levels this is such a beautiful story. So well expressed and uplifting. ,so many times when people ask where we are from our rehearsed answer is upstate New York. This is for two reasons. When you say NY, most think New York City. If you come from upstate you don’t want them thinking you’re from the city. The other reason is no one probably ever heard of our little village. My family and I have been pressed many times and have been surprised many times. The world is indeed small and full of angels. Hope you have a wonderful holiday and a happy and healthy New Year.
At one time I considered a map tattoo so I could show people. Well, that was before cellphones. ha! ha! Did you ever see the movie "Shawshank Redemption"? Well, parts of it were filmed here. Who would ever think they'd use a small town like ours for a movie? I guess the scouting team really liked our courthouse & lumberyard. It is a small world. I hope lots of angels visit you in upstate New York this year. Merry Christmas, Barbara! xoxo
Yeah, I was exaggerating just a bit. ha ha! For the longest time, I didn't know it was a Stephen King story. Ask your daughter if she ever picked up on the relationship between the line "Life's a shitty situation sometimes" and how they escaped the prison? Ha! Some of the actors come back here for Shawshank Redemption Reunions sometimes. The town goes nuts! Lots of townies were in the movie. I wasn't. Darn!
I will ask her. You have such interesting stories to tell. I am so happy to hear them. I especially love that Graham is the conduit for all of us to connect.
I asked my daughter about the line and I its relationship to the escape and she said she honestly didn’t. So we asked Google (some time technology can be wonderful) and we both had a good laugh!
Oh, Barbara, it would have helped if I had gotten the line right. “Life is just a shitty pipe dream.” Ha ha! English teachers are always looking for play on words, symbols, etc. Glad you guys got a kick out of it!
Beautiful story! I’m not sure I have a stand out story about an angel but I am sure many times I’ve met angels even though I did know it. Lots of “Godwink” moments! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you Jan,Once again you write so beautiful, this made me smile such a lovely story.I believe in angels I feel they have been there for me a few times.❤️
Hopefully, Debbie ~ my granddaughters have to travel -- one from Redondo Beach,California & the other from Chicago, Ill. and there's bad weather (snow + wind) predicted here in Ohio starting tomorrow night. Will keep our fingers crossed.
Thank you for sharing, Jan. I think there are many people around us who are our angels. One of the angels I remember was 15 years ago. My son had a serious accident while he was in a cab. The driver, seeing the seriousness of the accident and how the ambulance did not arrive, took my son to the Hospital, by the chance was the hospital where my son was always attended. He was hospitalized for a month and the driver went to visit him daily.

I meant to say thanks Jan but I have these fat fingers lol! Sorry about that!
Anne ~ No problem! I was hoping you would reply. I was going to kid you about Tijuana, the drunken angel from Mexico. ha ha! xoxo
My sister Jennifer, gone now 3+ years, is my guiding Angel.
Oh, Vicki ~ I bet you can feel her walking with you. xoxo

A tattoo? Wow!! That really would be outside my comfort zone. Lol. Actually, that movie is one of my daughters’s favorite.
