I heard Laurel. Repeated over and over and over. I am also 76 years old, I don’t hear as well as I used to. My youngest daughter is 51 years young, and has a very high distinguished voice. Sometimes I can’t hear her correctly on the phone, and I will tell her background noises, as I don’t want to hurt her feelings. But I resonated with your article. And when kids scream., That used to never phase me, and now I want to tell them to stop screaming. It definitely is different as we age, but it could be worse. Thank you for your story again. Thank you for keeping us entertained. Blessings my friend.

Blessings to you, Mary. My one daughter's voice kinda irritates me it's so high; then I realize she sounds just like me. Yikes! xoxo

Well Jan I’m like you I heard Laurel and I have hearing aides due to being deaf in my right ear. I love reading your stories.

Shari ~ they say the word being recorded was actually "laurel." Give me a High 5! Thanks for supporting me. I love knowing you're reading my stories. xoxo

Awesome! Thank you! I’m getting some great feedback. Recently, they told me they are reading it to residents at a nursing home and they love it! I bet I could get some good stories about aging from them. 😊

Yes I’m sure you can. I hear they can have some funny ones.

Every time I go to check my hearing I feel a little stressed because I have a hard time concentrating and hearing all the sounds on the test, but on the last test I did very well despite working with children who speak very loudly and fast.

Elizabeth ~ you made me chuckle. I was so nervous at my last eye exam. You had to push a button every time you saw a light flash. I got so bored my mind started to wonder & I had to tell them I lost concentration. Ha! I was worried they'd think something else was wrong with me. Keep up that good work with the kids. They need you! xoxo

I always tell my son and grandchildren that my hearing is fine. It’s their inability to speak clearly(enunciate) that is the problem. They mumble!!! 😊😂

And kids take so fast! Stoney & I are laughing at each other now because we say "What?" or "Huh?" to almost everything now. I think it's just a habit.

Very interesting!! I really enjoy your insights on aging! 😍

P.S. Is the USHS class of 1964 having a 60th reunion later this year?

Thank you! I'm wrestling with this aging thing like everyone else. I haven't heard about a reunion yet. 60 years should be a big one. I don't know if anyone is in charge. I don't want to be. ha ha! Let's get the girls of '64 together for lunch sometime this summer or fall at least. xoxo PS If I hear anything, I'll let you know.

That was really crazy, Jan! I listened to it and plainly heard "Laurel". I had Don listen to it (without his hearing aids) and he said he heard "Yanny". He went and put his hearing aids in to see if he could tell a difference and he said he still heard "Yanny". I strained to listen to see if I could hear "Yanny" and I never could.

Hi Laura ~ there's an interesting history & explanation on Wikipedia. Did you see at the end of my blog where it said the opera singer was actually saying "Laurel"? I guess we're the smart ones. ha ha! xoxo

Yes I heard Yanny and Laurel during Rise Up Summit with Tony Robbins last Thursday he showed it for the workshop and same as myself I don’t hear good on my left ear as it’s been reconstructed three times and I heard Laurel . I always lean to my right so I can hear better.

Lucy ~ I wonder if that's were GW got the idea from Tony Robbins. I know he loves him. You are amazing and have learned to adapt so beautifully. I know your life and your husband's haven't been easy, but whenever I need courage I think of the warrior picture of you. You are an inspiration. xoxo

So curious, my husband heard yanny and I heard laurel! This is really intriguing or, I am losing my higher range hearing! Getting older brings trials at times.

Jan, I read your articles every week. They are always right on. I tested Dave on the laurel/yanny because his hearing is awful. He heard Morel ! What does that tell you? As usual he is out there someplace. Keep up the good work. Judy

I was sure that I needed hearing aids but after the doctor cleaned the built up wax from my ears - not yet. True I don't hear as well as I did - especially certain sounds, but for now - all is in order.

Gosh, I know what you mean, Janice. Had my wax cleaned out one time & it was the size of a quarter. Yikes! My friend's husband has hearing aides that she can control from her iPhone. Now, that's dangerous. Ha! Take care! xoxo

Oh my!! I have to say, I could hear both!! Yannurel!! At first, without following instructions (might have been my problem in school too, HA!) I heard Gary? Then the lady's in the office said turn it up, so I did, that's when I heard Yannurel. And the Pinterest line was cute!! XO

Vicki -- the girls and Stoney all heard Yanny when I tested them. Ha! Boy, I felt like an odd ball -- again! Ha! That's why I read about it on the web. It is interesting, but even the experts disagree about the meaning. xoxo

Every week in the mail I get numerous oversized postcards advertising hearing aids, realtor ads wanting to know if you want to sell your house, long time nursing care insurance, beautiful senior living facilities, offers to pre plan your funeral and final arrangements! How does everyone know how old I am?

Oh yes...my hearing is for sure not as strong. The dr said bother to me a year ago. I’m a bit early to be losing it at 52 so I’ll be there sooner than some. Oh the joys! 🤗😀

This the joy of growing old. I have trouble hearing some sounds . My grands talk so fast I have to have them repeat what they say. The ringing in my ears don't help. At least we are alive to go thru this. Thank you for sharing.
