Have you heard about the controversy concerning country star Jason Aldean’s song — “Try That In A Small Town”? If not, you can see his video here. It makes me want to share a little bit about where I live. There are some good things about Upper Sandusky — people know who you are — and some bad things about it — people know who you are. Ha!
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1946. But when I was in high school, my dad announced we were moving to Upper Sandusky, Oh. I cried. “Dad, there’s nothing there but cornfields!” Funny, 60 years later and I’m still here…
Upper Sandusky is a small town of 6500 people in northwestern Ohio. Originally, it was the home of the Wyandotte Indians who named it “San-un-dus-tee” meaning “Water Within Pools” and “Upper” denoting its location on the Sandusky River.
We are located in Wyandot County about 60 miles SOUTH of Cedar Point, the famous amusement park on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Oh. Weird, I know.
I have inserted pictures from the first booklet my granddaughter & I did about Upper to raise money for Hannah’s House, a place for children to visit their non-custodial parents. Even though you may not recognize all the local references, I hope you can get “The Feel” for how people work, play & pray together in small town America from If It’s A Community Supper, It’s Got To Be Upper.
City Dwelling or small town living
It’ll Be OK.

As always Jan, an amusing, touching & uplifting story. Thanks for sharing.
I can relate. I grew up in Romeo, MI - a small farming town (pop. 3500) northeast of Detroit (at the base of the thumb✋️) known for it's apple & peach orchards ( my mouth waters when I think of the peach pies sold at the festival), fresh corn & the best tomatoes ever.
Each year over Labor Day weekend we had the Peach Festival with a carnival, craft fair & a Mummers parade as well as the big closing day parade. The big parade went right by our house & when I got to high school, I tried out & was selected to be a majorette(sp?). As we marched by my house, my Mom would yell out "get those knees high". So embarrassing then but funny now. 😅
Oh such fun memories.
That was fun. I lived in Sylvania Ohio - a smallish town west of Upper Sandusky - for maybe nine years and loved it.
