To My Husband ~ An Awesome Dad — on Father’s Day:
It started when I was a high schooler swooning over a football player, sneaking kisses after the game.
Then as a freshman in college sobbing when that guy left for the Army
Soon it was an exciting elopement because my parents didn’t approve of us
As a couple passionately creating a family, celebrating 54 Father’s Days
After years of feverously working together to pay bills, to buy a house, to send kids to college
Life finally slowed down, and we started having quieter days together.
HIM: Honey, someone left you a message on the answering machine.
ME: Who was it?
HIM: I don’t know. It was some guy overseas named Michael.
ME: I don’t know anybody overseas named Michael.
HIM: You must. He said he loves you.
ME: What?
HIM: Well, there WAS a lot of talking going on in the background.
I couldn’t really hear very well. He had an accent of some kind.
Maybe it was one of your former students?
ME: (Still laughing)
