When I was young, I cherished my little Golden Book with the beautiful picture of Jesus & children on the cover -- the one that had the hymns “Jesus Loves Me” and “Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam” inside.
Growing up, I went to Sunday School, VBS, and confirmation classes regularly.
But as I age, I am becoming more spiritual and less of a church-goer. A survey of religion at the University of Michigan concluded whether you’re a Gen-Xer or a Baby Boomer, you’re likely to become more religious as you get older.
I’ve always talked to God, but it wasn’t until my older years that I began recognizing some of His “unique” replies.
It began shortly after my mom died. I started noticing the #22 everywhere I looked. My mom was born in 1922 and died on February 22. For some reason, the number stuck out on lots of paperwork after that. I was even surprised to see my parents put 22 as their ages on their marriage license so they could elope. I am still astounded most mornings when I awake to see :22 on my digital clock.
One day I was feeling quite dejected leaving my mom’s attorney’s office. Some family members were upset with how I was handling my mom’s affairs. As I walked up the sidewalk to her empty house, I called out to God in my mind, “Why did she do this to me?”
When I got to her front door, I saw an old flyer stuck in an opening. I pulled it out. Although it was crinkled, it had a beautiful picture of Jesus & children on the front. I turned it over and in big, bold letters it said, “Keep Doing What You’re Doing In Memory of Me.” ~ Luke 22:19

Several years later I was really scared when I was driving my sister to the hospital in St Louis to have open heart surgery. I whispered under my breath, “Help us, Lord!” It was before dawn, and I didn’t know where I was going. “Judy, do you know where we get off?”
Even before she could finish saying, “The next exit,” my headlights illuminated the EXIT 22 sign.
Once the nurses had my sister settled in the Pre-op room, the surgeon came in to ask her if she would be willing to participate in a study a pharmaceutical company and the hospital were doing -- hoping to increase the longevity of arteries used for heart bypasses. He explained there would be 40 participants in the study, and she would be -- #22.
Those were the longest hours I’ve ever waited. But when I saw her in the recovery room with a big #22 and 1:22 pm on the bandage covering the arm where they removed arteries for her five bypasses, I knew she’d be all right.
Today, I believe the Universe communicates with us through “God Winks” -- a number, feather, coin, quote, cardinal, butterfly or an unbelievable coincidence -- just like we wink at our children to reassure them. And you may really enjoy checking out American author & inspirational speaker, Squire Rushnell ‘s book series When God Winks to see what he has to say about it.

“My dog winks at me sometimes…And I always wink back just in case it’s some kind of code.”

Could not agree more! I have always called these moment God-incidents, as I don’t believe there are coincidences. God communicates with us if we are tuned in to hear Him! Loved your post!
Love this Jan! Definitely believe in Godwinks. Another way of putting it, he is showing you the path or letting you know he’s got this so have the faith and trust him. Rainbows 🌈 are definitely those for me right now as I’ve shared before. However and whatever they are, we need to say thank you God and have faith he will light the path! Take care and God bless! 🙏❤️
